Coaching Accomplishments

Jen began coaching in Kalamazoo in 1993 for the Kalamazoo Figure Skating Club. She served as the Assistant Skating Director at Lawson Arena from 1995-2000. At that time the Kalamazoo Figure Skating Club moved to their new home Twin Star ice Arena (today is known as Wings West). Jen has served as Learn to Skate Director and Ice Show Director since 2000, until last year when she retired from the ice show directorship after 23 years. Jen has coached skaters to many different levels of competition, including Junior National competitors and Nationa I Solo Da nee Finalists. As well as many test gold medalists in freestyle, moves and dance. In 2010, Jen teamed up with Jennifer Miller and have created a very strong National Solo Dance program. Jen holds a Level Ill Ranking from the Professional Skaters Association which recognizes coaches for their student’s achievements.

Background

Jen was an international and world level pair skater for Team USA. She left home (Chicago, IL) at 8 years old, with her skating partner,John Frederiksen, to train at the world renowned Broadmoor World Arena with Carlo and Christa Fassi as well as Pieter Kollen for pairs. Jen and her partner were 4-time World Junior team members, winning the bronze medal in 1990 & 1991. they were also the 1988 United States Figure Skating Championships, Junior Pair Silver Medalist and the 1989 United States Figure Skating Championships, Junior Pair Champions. During their Senior debut Jen and John were the 1990 Skate Canada 4th place finishers and the 1990 US Olympic Festival Pairs Silver Medalists and the 1991 Skate America International Pairs 5th place finishers. Jen and John also competed in ice dancing and won the Midwestern Sectional Championship in Intermediate Dance in 1986. They went on to compete at 6-US Figure Skating Championships and 8-lnternational events representing Team USA. Upon moving to Kalamazoo Jen began coaching in 1993 and as one of the founding members of the Precision Skating Club of WMU. She served as the first President of the WM U skating club and was a member from 1995-1998. Jen was on the committee to campaign for varsity status of the synchronized skating program at WMU. In 1999, Syncrhonized Skating was granted varsity status. Jen was a member of the WM U Alumni team in 2012, 2013 & 2014, winning the pewter medal at the 2013 United States Synchronized Skating Championships.
